Now I believe all the current generation with SBS bolts (3 position bolt) are all plastic or makrolon trigger guards as you said, whether wood or synthetic stocked My 'professional' was a synthetic stock and trigger guard version of this. There were luxus and standard models (was it SL, M and S action lengths or something?). The first rear-locking 60* bolt rifles had metal trigger guards and magazines and wood stocks. Soon after that they started producing the rear locking Steyr Mannlichers with the makrolon trigger guard and removable rotary mag. They then brought out the M72 which was a front locking, 60 degree bolt lift action with a plastic mag rotor and some alloy parts in the mag. The "proper" MS with split bridge and all metal construction was made up until about 1972. It is a great shooting rifle, but would be even better with a laminate stock and metal magazine and bottom metal! I am on my 3rd unit - replaced one when I discovered that plastic and bore cleaner doesn't mix well, and another because it cracked after a particularly excessive load testing session shooting from a bench. It is a one piece out unit that extends from the front action screw to the rear screw behind the trigger guard and includes the magazine surround that the plastic rotary magazine slots into. Accurate rifle with a great barrel and action, but its not just the trigger guard, its all the bottom metal that was replaced by plastic. I believe the first plastic stock and trigger guard was on the M3 'Professional' which pre-dates the SBS - I got mine in 1995 but they were around for a few years before that. Norwegian hunter misses moose, shoots man on toiletĪgree! I think they started using plastic on everything when the SBS models came on the scene. Re: When did Steyr-Mannlicher go to the plastic trigger guard?ĭon't know when but certainly it wasn't a good idea Which model and year did they switch from the metal to plastic trigger guards? When did Steyr-Mannlicher go to the plastic trigger guard?
